Basic Battery in Subnautica 2 | How to Craft

How to Craft a Basic Battery in Subnautica 2 - The Basic Battery is one of the earliest “must-have” crafting items in Subnautica 2, because it powers key starter tools (and may also be needed to bring certain early locations back online).

Basic Battery recipe (materials) and where you craft it

How to Craft a Basic Battery in Subnautica 2

To craft one Basic Battery, you need 2 Copper and 1 Acidic Raion Pouch, and you make it at your Lifepod crafting station (often referred to as the Fabricator, and sometimes described as a replicator in guides). Once the ingredients are in your inventory, the Basic Battery craft becomes available in that station’s crafting menu.

How to get Copper early (fastest starting-area method)

Copper is a straightforward early resource: you can find it in underwater caves close to your Lifepod, where it appears as small copper outcroppings/nodes you can collect while exploring. A quick “first battery” route is simply diving into the nearby cave network, grabbing copper as you go, then returning to craft.

How to get an Acidic Raion Pouch (and avoid the acid blast)

The Acidic Raion Pouch comes from the Acidic Raion plant found in caves, which is typically described as a large purple, brain-like growth with pouches on the sides and a different resource in the center. The catch is that you can’t harvest the pouches empty-handed—you need the Survival Multitool, which you can craft at the Lifepod Fabricator using 3 Titanium. With the Survival Multitool equipped, you can cut the pouches free; and it’s smart to remove the side pouches first, because some guides warn that going for the center resource before removing pouches can trigger an acid blast.

Crafting the Basic Battery (what to do once you have the ingredients)

After you’ve collected 2 Copper and 1 Acidic Raion Pouch, swim back to your Lifepod and open the Fabricator/replicator interface. Navigate to the Basic Battery entry and craft it—then consider crafting a second one immediately if you have spare materials, since you’ll burn through batteries quickly once you start building powered tools.

What Basic Batteries are used for (why you’ll want a small stockpile)

Basic Batteries aren’t just for a single quest step—they’re a core component for early progression because they power tools like the Scanner and Flashlight, and they’re also an ingredient in multiple other recipes. One item database for the current build lists Basic Battery as being used in nine different crafting recipes, which is why the “battery loop” becomes part of your normal early-game routine.
